Chuckwagon[]

A Chuckwagon is a large wagon from which food is served to campers. They are located at three camps, Beaubien Camp Clarks Fork Camp and Ponil Camp. They serve a chuckwagon breakfast to campers, comprised normally of soup and bread. Members of the treks generally help to serve and clean up after the meal. It is from the Chuckwagon the the word "Chuckbox" come from, a word often used to describe the boxes that patrols carry on campouts to store food and use as a cooking surface. Chuckwagons were pulled by a team of horses to their destination, in order to provide food to cowboys during long cattle drives, and were managed by the cook. The cook was often the most highly paid and respected member of the cattle drive, and had to be treated as such, as they were liable to quit in the event of an altercation or disagreement. At Clarks Fork Camp, the Chuckwagon is merely a centerpiece of the eating area during the chuckwagon meal, whereas at Ponil Camp, the food is actually served off of the wagon.
